Dobrich is located in the southeast part of Bulgaria, administrative and economic center of a municipality and a district with the same name. It is located amid the south part of the geographic region Dobrudzha, around 30 kilometers of the north Bulgarian Black Sea and 50 km north of Varna.

The population of the town as of February 2011 is 91 030 citizens making it the ninth largest place in the country.

The Art Gallery of Dobrich is in the city center. It is a unique statute of culture, one of the 100th national touristic sights of Bulgaria. It was built in the beginning of XX century for a judicial-administrative purposes, it takes a key place in the city life. Along the decades it has housed different institutions. In 1981 the building becomes a gallery. In it you may see a permanent exposition of masterpieces of Bulgarian art – paintings, sculptures and graphics of the beginning of XX century to 90s – paintings of the most famous Bulgarian painters as Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Vladimir Dimitrov – Maystora, Dechko Uzunov, Bencho Obreshkov and many others, part of the national golden fund of Bulgaria as well as graphics of the most famous contemporary artists.

The paper
Solely in the gallery in Dobrich you can see the only in the country unique collection of paper art by artists of different countries. In interesting plastics, installations, collages and other forms of hand-made paper demonstrated are the rich capabilities of the material.

Cells
In 10 authentic cells preserved since the time of the use of this part of the building for police arrests exhibited are items of contemporary visual art – installations, graffiti, video art, multimedia etc.

Renaissance Hall
Renaissance Hall is a museum moment in the building of the Art Gallery – Dobrich. In it exhibited is the collection “Icons from Dobrudzha”. It represents pieces of all of Dobrudzha painted by the masters of painting between XVII and XIX century. Amongst them distinguished are pieces by Zahari Tsanyuv, Nedko Todorovoich, Koycho Dyusov.
Valuable are the icons of St. St. Cyril and Methodius being the richest in the country collection of the Holy brothers.
The icons from Dobrudzha are wonderful pieces of renaissance iconography full of light and life, part of the national iconic treasure of the country.

The Nature and Animals Protection Center is unique for Bulgaria as well as for Eastern Europe. In a natural habitat, in the zoo, raised are over 100 kinds of animals: deer, llamas, mouflon, bears, horses of Przewalski, goats, pheasants, buffalos, water and exotic birds.
Among the most interesting inhabitants of the center is the family Kuni, Igor and their son Kaliman – horses of the Przewalski breed. This kind was discovered by the Russian explorer Nikolay M. Przewalski. Horses are very short – about 130 cm and have a very thick yellow-gray mane, very shaggy tail, massive head, dark mane and legs. They are not pretentious to food and may be fed by hand. They are very durable and run like vortex.

 

Ethnographic House

The Ethnographic House was built in 1860 by a rich trader of wheat. It represents a typical for the renaissance age architectural monument. A century later the house is restored and turned into a museum representing the life and livelihood of the population of Dobrudzha of the end of XIX and the beginning of XX century.  
Visitors of the museum have the opportunity to meet and see the traditional clothing of the local people, the house (kitchen), the bedroom and the basement where exhibited are original dishes for preparing and preservation of conserved food and agricultural tools and items related to the household work. On the upper floor, in the guestroom recreated is the atmosphere of the home of a rich trader, emigrated from Kotel. In the rest of the rooms restored are the previous looks of the house, the closet as well as the cozy porch.

Архитектурно-етнографски комплекс Стария Добрич, снимка: Цвета Не�?еваArchitectural – Ethnographic Complex "The Old Dobrich"

Established in the city center of the contemporary town, on the place of the Odun Charshiya, the ethnographic museum “The Old Dobrich” preserves and represents the traditional Dobrudzha crafts from the end of XIX and the first half of XX century. In the renovated old city charshiya craftsmen continue a tradition from many centuries. Using old hand technologies and with original instruments, in more than 30 workshops created are traditional items of pottery, blacksmith, embroidery, weaving, cooperage, homespun, goldsmith and others. In the center of the complex restored is the old clock tower built in XVIII century – a symbol of the Bulgarian renaissance sprit of the town.

Dobrudzha’s archeology
In the exhibition hall of the complex established is a permanent exposition “Dobrudzha’s archeology” and created is a School Museum representing a partial renovation of the renaissance school of XIX century.

Renaissance school
At the exhibition hall of the complex “Old Dobrich” created is a School museum which represents a partial renovation of the renaissance school of XIX century. It is the first mutual school in the town of Dobrich of 1859.

House Memorial “Yordan Yovkov”
In 1980 to the house-museum is built a house memorial where settled is the one of its kind in Bulgaria permanent museum exposition “Yordan Yovkov – life and creative path” and located is the richest fund of the writer.
Of interest are the cabinet of Yovkov and the remarkable mural of Stoimen Stoilov “In the world of Yovkov’s characters”.
The new exhibition “Dora Gabe” is a lyrical continuation of the exposition “Yordan Yovkov – life and creative path”, an unforgettable moment of eternity. During the years the house-museum with house memorial “Yordan Yovkov” confirmed itself as a center of the view of Yovkov, recognized not only among Bulgarians but among international scientific community as well.

The City Park St. George or the city garden as known among people of Dobrich is the most visited place in Dobrich by its citizens and guests. In the far year of 1867 Bildieto (the City Municipal Council) selects a place in the neighborhood of Karabokluka for establishment of the first city garden. An enormous contribution for development of the city-park art has the family of Gradinarovi.
Its area is 430 dca and is divided into several sectors – “The Old Garden”, Children’s sector – a zone for games and fun, park lakes zone, zone of rock terrace gardens, sports zone etc.
In 1999 the old garden of the city park is announced to be a monument of culture and garden park art.

The museum of new and newest history is located in the building of the old casino in the town of Dobrich. It collects evidence of the history of Dobrudzha of 1878 up to today. In its funds preserved are over 100 000 museum valuables. Interesting are the collection of the Old Dobrich, the Dobrudzha Question (1878 – 1940), the Dobrich epic 1916, the City Park St. George, Weapon of New Time, Political Parties Today. The exposition of the museum represents the faith of Dobrudzha during the Romanian domination, the peaceful retrieving of the south part to Bulgaria in 1940 as well as many other valuable museum collections.

Museum of Natural Science

The exposition “The Nature of Dobrudzha” is placed in the halls of the museum in the City Park St. George. It represents the biodiversity of Dobrudzha on a panoramic view alive become natural paintings with the typical representatives of the flora and fauna of Dobridzha.

The temple St. George was built in 1843. During the Crimean War (1853 – 1856) was burned down and in 1868 is restored again. The temple is work of unknown craftsmen.
In architectural terms it is a basilica with three naves and no dome. In the style of Kolyo Ficheto is the entire church, the arches of the two façades and the original stone plastics on the external walls of the building. It has a rich and complex iconostasis. Many of the icons are painted by the painter by Debar Kozma M. Blazhenov.

Museum of Military Cemetery

In the town of Dobrich located is the largest military cemetery in Bulgaria of the time of the First World War. The cemetery is a unique monument of culture related to the fights of the town in 1916. In it buried are over 3000 soldiers of four religions and seven nationalities – Bulgarians, Russians, Romanians, Germans, Turkish, Serbians and Jews. In 1922 the people of Dobrudzha, with their own money build an ossuary chapel St. Archangel Michael, iconography by the Dobrich painter Nikola Tahtunov.

The architectural and sculptural memorial of Han Asparuh is the largest monument dedicated to the founder of Bulgaria. It is done by Velihko Minekov and Arch. Ivan Nikolov. It was opened on October 16th 1981 in relation to celebrations dedicated to 1300 years of foundation of Bulgaria.
